BEST PUMPKIN PATCHES NEAR TORONTO (PICK YOUR FALL MOOD)
Every October, Toronto collectively decides it needs a pumpkin. Preferably one picked from an actual field, while wearing a sweater the weather may or may not justify.
Luckily, some of the best pumpkin patches near Toronto are about an hour from downtown, with everything from U-pick fields and wagon rides to corn mazes, farm markets and enough cider to turn pumpkin shopping into an entire afternoon.
The trick is choosing your kind of fall day. Some farms go all in on festival energy; others keep things closer to pumpkins, muddy boots and something warm afterwards. We narrowed it down to four, depending on the mood.

WHEN PUMPKIN PATCH SEASON NEAR TORONTO ACTUALLY STARTS
Pumpkin season starts before Toronto fully looks like fall. Many farms begin their autumn programming in September, but late September through October is when pumpkin patches around the GTA really get going.
Go earlier and you’ll usually get warmer weather and plenty of pumpkins to choose from. By mid-October, the leaves are doing their thing and the whole experience feels properly seasonal — but you’ll also be sharing it with everyone else who had exactly the same Saturday plan.
Weather and harvest conditions can change things quickly, so check the farm before leaving. If you care about U-pick specifically, make sure pumpkins are still being picked from the field rather than simply available at the farm market.
DOWNEY’S FARM (13682 HEART LAKE RD)
Downey’s is for the person who wants pumpkins but also needs approximately five other things happening at the same time.
Its annual Pumpkinfest takes over the Caledon farm in fall, with a pumpkin patch alongside wagon rides, farm animals, a corn maze, jumping pillows and plenty of activities for kids. It’s much more of a full afternoon than a quick stop to find something for your front porch.
This is also one of the better-known fall farms near Toronto, so expect company on a beautiful October weekend. Tickets are date-specific and sold online — make the plan before brunch, not after it.
BROOKS FARMS (122 ASHWORTH RD)
Brooks Farms has been doing its Fall Fun Festival since the late ’90s, and it definitely leans into the fun part.
Beyond pumpkins, there’s a corn maze, wagon rides, farm animals, jumping pillows, zip lines and live entertainment. The farm market and café are there for the inevitable point when you decide that walking around outside requires coffee and something baked.
It’s especially good for families or groups where simply choosing a pumpkin isn’t enough of an agenda. Go early on peak fall weekends — this is not the place to expect a quiet, cinematic field to yourself.
COOPER’S CSA FARM (266 ASHWORTH RD)
Cooper’s is a little more country, a little less fall theme park — and home to a genuinely serious corn maze.
The Zephyr farm pairs its U-pick pumpkin patch with wagon rides, farm animals and a 10-acre corn maze, making this the obvious choice if getting mildly lost among very tall corn sounds like your preferred October activity. Attendance is managed through timed entry, which helps keep things from feeling completely chaotic.
There’s a farm store for produce, baked goods and other things you’ll suddenly decide you need. Cooper’s also runs select nighttime maze experiences in fall if pumpkin picking in daylight feels a little too wholesome.
WILLOWTREE FARM (975 REGIONAL RD 21)
Willowtree is the softer version of the big GTA pumpkin day.
The family farm near Port Perry runs its seasonal Pumpkin Palooza, with wagon rides to the pumpkin patch, a straw jump and other fall activities. There’s also a proper year-round farm market and café, so coffee, donuts and something local to take home can easily become part of the plan.
It’s a slightly longer drive from downtown Toronto than some of the Caledon options, but that works in its favour. Come here when you want the afternoon to feel like you actually left the city rather than relocated half of it to a pumpkin field.
