FIFA World Cup 2026 in Toronto: dates, tickets, where to watch, and local tips

The World Cup is coming to Toronto, and it’s going to be loud. Matches are set for Toronto Stadium at Exhibition Place(what we normally call BMO Field), plus a massive FIFA Fan Festival right downtown. If you’re trying to plan tickets, transit, or just where to soak up the chaos, start here.

Key dates (Toronto)

Group stage: June 12, 17, 20, 23, 26, 2026
Knockouts: Round of 32 on July 2, 2026
Toronto hosts six matches in total. The June 12 opener in Toronto is scheduled to feature Canada’s Men’s National Team, which is a first on home soil.

Where it’s happening

Toronto Stadium at Exhibition Place (170 Princes’ Blvd) will be temporarily expanded for the tournament. Plans add ~17,756 seats, taking capacity to 45,736, with a mix of north/south stand additions and upgrades (video boards, sound, lounges). Translation: bigger, louder, and built to handle match-day surges.

Tickets: how (and how much)

FIFA kicks off ticketing with a Visa Presale Draw from Sept 10–19, 2025. Expect dynamic pricing this time (prices move with demand). FIFA has flagged from ~$60 USD for some group-stage seats, up to several thousand for the final. If you want Toronto games, make a FIFA account now and register for updates; if you’ve got a Visa, enter the draw window. An official resale platform is coming, too. Tip: demand will spike for June 12 (Canada) and for knockout matches. Have a backup game in mind when purchase windows open.

Fan Festival (free!)

Can’t get a ticket? There’ll be a big FIFA Fan Festival™ split between Fort York National Historic Site and The Bentway, with giant screens, music, food, and a ton of flags. It runs through the tournament (June 11–July 19) and is free to enter. Exact daily hours/programming will drop closer to kickoff.

Getting there (without losing your mind)

  • Transit: Exhibition Place is one of the easier stadiums to reach. You’ve got TTC streetcars to Exhibition Loop (509 Harbourfront / 511 Bathurst) and GO Transit’s Exhibition Station right next door. The TTC’s 2026 plan calls for extra service on match days and during the Fan Festival
  • Expect closures: Road restrictions and security perimeters are standard for mega-events. The City’s planning docs note closures and diversion strategies during the World Cup window — plan for transit, walking, or rideshare drop-offs outside the inner zone.

What’s actually on in Toronto (the matches)

Per the host-city schedule, Toronto’s game days look like this (match numbers are FIFA’s):
  • Fri, June 12 – Match 3, Group B — Canada vs TBD
  • Wed, June 17 – Match 21, Group L
  • Sat, June 20 – Match 33, Group E
  • Tue, June 23 – Match 46, Group L
  • Fri, June 26 – Match 62, Group I
  • Thu, July 2 – Match 83, Round of 32 (Group K vs L)
(Fixtures beyond Canada’s opener are TBD until the tournament draw.)

If you’re not going inside the stadium

  • Fan Festival at Fort York/The Bentway (free, big screens, performances).
  • Liberty Village will be buzzing pre- and post-match (walkable to the stadium).
  • Plan your exit before kickoff. The walk back to King/Queen, Ossington, or Union via GO is often faster than hunting a car after the final whistle.

Volunteering (if you want to be part of the show)

  • Toronto’s World Cup site links out to volunteering info and city updates. Roles are unpaid (uniform + meals on shift + training) and applications flow through FIFA/host-city channels. Keep an eye on the City’s page and sign up for updates.
