HALLOWEEN DATES IN TORONTO THAT ARE ACTUALLY A GOOD TIME

October might be Toronto's best dating month. It's still comfortable enough to walk somewhere after dinner, cold enough to make a cozy bar sound appealing, and suddenly watching a horror movie or wandering through an old neighbourhood after dark counts as a very solid plan.

If you're looking for Halloween date ideas in Toronto, you don't need to default to a massive costume party. We found four dates that feel fun and current for 2026, whether you want something romantic, low-key, properly spooky or a little chaotic.

HOW SPOOKY DO WE ACTUALLY WANT THIS DATE TO BE?

There are levels to Halloween dating. A ghost walk through the Distillery is cute-spooky, an old horror movie is easy and low-pressure, while exploring historic buildings at Black Creek after dark requires a slightly stronger commitment to the theme. For a first or early date, we'd probably keep things around the first two categories so there's still plenty of time to actually talk.

It's also worth planning earlier than usual if you're going out around October 31, 2026, because Halloween falls on a Saturday this year. Ticketed experiences will be busier, dinner reservations will disappear faster and Church Street will be packed. If the exact date doesn't matter, an earlier October weekend can give you the same Halloween atmosphere with considerably less chaos.

DO THE DISTILLERY DISTRICT AFTER DARK

The Distillery District can feel a little touristy on a regular Saturday afternoon, but October evenings suit it surprisingly well. Once it gets dark, the old brick buildings, cobblestones and narrow passageways give you plenty of atmosphere before anyone has even mentioned a ghost.

The Spirits of the Distillery District Ghost Tour lasts around 75 minutes and takes you through local ghost stories, legends and darker pieces of neighbourhood history. Adult tickets are $32.99, and the tour is outdoors, so we'd check the forecast before committing to an outfit that only works above 15°C.

Rather than arriving right before the tour, we'd make a proper evening of it. Come while there's still some daylight, walk around the Distillery, get something warm and choose a later tour once the neighbourhood gets moodier. It's especially good for a newer couple because there's always something happening around you, but you're still spending most of the evening walking and talking together.

MAKE IT A HORROR MOVIE NIGHT ON RONCY

If haunted houses are absolutely not happening, Revue Cinema is the easier Halloween date. The historic theatre on Roncesvalles has enough old-school character to make a horror movie feel like a proper night out rather than something you could have streamed from the sofa.

The October 2026 programme includes screenings such as The Silence of the Lambs on 35mm, Paranormal Activity, Night of the Living Dead and an Evil Dead trilogy. The calendar changes throughout the month, so we'd choose the film first and plan dinner around the showtime instead of trying to force a movie into an already complicated itinerary.

Roncesvalles also makes the before-and-after part easy. Come early for dinner somewhere along Roncy, walk to the cinema and leave time for dessert or a drink afterwards. It's probably our favourite first-date option on this list because you get the Halloween mood without costumes, expensive tickets or discovering that your date's response to being scared is leaving you behind.

GO GHOST HUNTING AT BLACK CREEK

Black Creek is for the couple that wants Halloween to be the actual event rather than just the background. Ghosts of the Village takes place after dark inside the historic village, with a 75-minute guided experience through old buildings and stories of reportedly unexplained encounters. Adult tickets start at $34.99.

For something more intense, Alone in the Dark is a two-hour paranormal investigation for guests 16 and older. Small groups explore reportedly haunted spaces inside the village, and tickets are $67.99 per person. It's less of a traditional haunted house with actors jumping out at you and more for people who genuinely enjoy ghost stories, paranormal investigations and making themselves nervous in very old buildings.

Because Black Creek is in North York, we wouldn't try to combine it with several downtown plans. Have dinner beforehand, figure out transportation and treat the experience as the main part of the date. It costs more and takes more planning than Revue or the Distillery, but for two people who actually love spooky season, it feels much more memorable than another October cocktail.

DRESS UP AND GO TO CHURCH STREET

If you want to go out on Halloween itself, Church Street is where Toronto really commits. The Village fills with elaborate costumes, drag, prosthetics, couples looks, niche pop-culture references and people who clearly started planning what they were wearing sometime around August.

You don't need to turn it into a club night either. We'd dress up, book dinner nearby before the streets get too busy and spend the rest of the evening walking through the neighbourhood, looking at costumes and stopping for a drink if somewhere catches our attention. The street celebration is traditionally free, so it's also a good option if the costumes have already consumed this month's entertainment budget.

With Halloween falling on Saturday in 2026, we'd expect the area to be especially crowded. TTC makes much more sense than driving, and comfortable shoes are probably a better relationship decision than coordinating six-inch heels with the costume. It's definitely less intimate than the other dates here, but if you both like dressing up, people-watching and being in the middle of everything, that's exactly the appeal.

MAKE ONE GOOD PLAN AND LEAVE THE REST OPEN

A Halloween date doesn't need three reservations and an itinerary scheduled to the minute. Pick one thing you genuinely want to do, find somewhere nearby for food or drinks and leave enough room for the evening to change. We'd choose the Distillery for something atmospheric, Revue for an easy first date, Black Creek when getting spooked is the whole point and Church Street when the costumes deserve an audience.

Toronto already does most of the aesthetic work in October anyway. The evenings get colder, the streetcar windows start fogging up, patios bring out the heaters and walking through the city after dark suddenly feels a little more cinematic. Halloween is really just a good excuse to make a date out of it.
